A man died Monday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while riding on his electric scooter, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said.
Police responded to the scene of Frelinghuysen Avenue and Whittier Place in Newark about 7 a.m. for a report of a crash involving a scooter and a car, officials said.
The driver of the scooter, Marcus Vinicus Pires DeCruz, 36, of Newark, was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:22 a.m., authorities said.
The driver of the vehicle cooperated with police and has not been charged, prosecutors said.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact its tip line at 1-877-847-7432.
